Seesen – more than just a town

During your stay free parking is available and there are also several charging stations for electrical vehicles.
Famous personalities such as Wilhelm Busch, H.E. Steinway and Israel Jacobson have left their marks in Seesen up to the present. Israel Jacobson, reformer of Judaism, built the first synagogue in town. Playfully discover Jewish life in Seesen with the app “Operation Legendär”.
The “Steinway Trail” as a thematic walking route with accompanying booklet and award commemorates the Steinway family.
Another trail plus booklet connects Seesen city with its surrounding villages. An adventure – the “Dorfrunde” (Village Tour) – to experience the countryside around Seesen by e-bike or on foot. Why don’t you give it a try?
After exploring the area, the “Sehusa Wasserwelt” (Water World & Spa) invites you to relax and finish off the day. Or you could enjoy nature in Steinway Park or in Park for Generations. More than 100 kms of trails offer a lot of room for walkers and mountain bikers. In winter the Bromberg Loipe is available for cross-country skiing.

Historical hiking trail between Wolfshagen im Harz and Seesen
Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg (1797-1871) was born in Wolfshagen. In 1825 he came to Seesen and worked as a master carpenter. For a start musically gifted Heinrich Engelhard casually repaired square pianos and musical instruments, before establishing this business on a regular basis in 1836. He specialised in the construction of pianos and soon made a mark as an instrument maker. In 1850, the family emigrated to New York. With their so far acquired knowledge and skills they in 1853 launched the later on internationally known company Steinway & Sons. The Steinweg, later Steinway, family always maintained the contact with their native country and came over and over again for visit. Today numerous tracks of the family still can be found in Wolfshagen im Harz and Seesen.
